Frequently-asked questions about student progress
1. Will my child receive a grade for the course?
No. There are no grades or tests in Readak. The program focuses on helping students
perform better in their day-to-day classes.
2. How do you evaluate individual progress?
Timed readings measuring reading speed and comprehension are administered regularly
throughout the program. The timed readings are an excellent way for students to see
first-hand the factors that affect their reading-things like external distractions,
background knowledge, hunger, boredom, and interest level. By the end of the program,
students have a good understanding of the conditions under which they perform best
academically. Parents, too, observe changes in their child's attitude toward school and
homework.
3. Does Readak guarantee improvement?
Though we cannot guarantee improvement, experience shows that most students who are
attentive in class and apply the skills consistently benefit from their participation in
the course.
4. How can parents become involved?
During the course, the Readak teacher will host a workshop for parents interested in
learning more about the program. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and to
receive information concerning course progress. Parents are also welcome to attend classes
and/or contact the teacher at any time.
5. Does the course have long-term benefits?
Yes. Surveys of Readak graduates have confirmed that students experience both immediate
and long-term benefits. Students may take advantage of the workbook exercises and the
Program Review, a comprehensive review of Readak skills which is mailed home shortly after
the end of the course, to refresh their skills.
